Raul Cortes, MD FACS

Dr. Raul Cortes is triple certified in Plastic Surgery, Hand Surgery and General Surgery. He is double boarded by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery and holds an additional Certificate in the Subspecialty of Surgery of the Hand. He is a graduate of both the prestigious Harvard Combined Plastic Surgery Program and the UCLA fellowship program in Hand and Microsurgery. He is a Clinical Instructor in Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mt. Sinai Icahn School of Medicine and holds affiliations with New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, Mt. Sinai at Queens Elmhurst Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and Jersey City Medical Center Barnabas Health. Dr. Cortes is dedicated to all aspects of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He treats conditions of the hand and wrist, as well as performs reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery. Dr. Cortes believes in dedicated individualization of high quality and compassionate care.

After graduating Cum Laude from Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Cortes received his residency training over 13 years including two residencies, two fellowships and experiences across four continents. Dr. Cortes is also a member of multiple national and regional medical societies such as the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American Association of Hand Surgery, American Medical Association, as well as a member of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Cortes is dedicated to education and maintains academic affiliations teaching residents and medical students at both Weill Cornell Medical School and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. His passion for teaching afforded him the honor of a Resident Teaching Award by the Harvard Medical School Class of 2012. In addition, Dr. Cortes has a strong interest in medical mission trips and completed a mission in Cartagena, Colombia working with children with congenital facial deformities through volunteer work with the Save the Children Foundation.

Dr. Cortes practices in both New York and New Jersey and is fluent in Spanish with working knowledge of Italian and French. In his free time, he enjoys running, biking and traveling.
